Also, on a completely different aproach of the term freedom, I think it is really important for us to realize that freedom and responsability are always linked. I may be free to do whatever I want, but eventually the things I do are going to catch up with me and I will have to take responsability for them. I believe this is very important because we have to know the consecuenses of our actions before we act, so that we can be truly free and live in peace.

Freedom In Action
In this chapter, I really liked the way Savater focused on the concept of freedom. When I was reading the 3 different types of freedom he comes up with I was like, wow, I had never thought of freedom in such ways, only in the first one. I particularly liked his second way of using the concept of this word. I maybe handicapped, in prison or extremely poor, and maybe because of this I can't do a certain amount of stuff like backpacking across Europe or climbing mount Everest, what do I know? But nobody, and I mean, nobody, can stop me from wanting to do all these things. I am completely free of wanting to go and do all those things. I will never be forced to like or want something I do not like. Yes, I can be forced to do it, to some point, but If I don't like that action, if I don't want to do it, I can always remain hating it. Nobody can change my will. It is all mine, and that, to me, is what is so great about freedom.

Rene I liked your post because I found too really interesting the three definitions that Savater show us in this chapter, I think that freedom is a very complex word, because we can describe differently, and the one you say about that your are free of wanting to do something even thou you can’t do it, that is excellent because I know that even if I cannt do what I want I am free to wanting it, the idea of being free of our thoughts is something that satisfied everyone because you can never be imitated by anything about your thoughts.
ResponderEliminarI agree with you Rene, I was also very amazed about the 3 different types of liberty Savater gave us. I was also amazed with the second one about that you can have the freedom to think whatever you want and nobody could prevent you for thinking. Also I think that you are also correct when you say that freedom and responsibility are very linked together. Check out my post because I wrote about freedom and responsibility.
ResponderEliminarRene I agree completely with the last paragraph you wrote, it shows deep understanding of the chapter. Peace is what we should think of when using our freedom or before putting it into action. There will always be consequences and we have to confront them no matter what.
ResponderEliminarRene, I like your post and understand it very well because I also wrote about these 3 types of freedom in my post. Its amazing how free we are, and freedom is something that we really own, i mean, people can force us to do things, taking some part of our freedom, but they can't take the totallity of freedom apart from us.
ResponderEliminarI like how you explain the freedom and your will. I think the same as you thinking that freedom can't be taken away from you. Knowing that it is all about your will to do something. This is also everyone has because they are free.
ResponderEliminarexactly, freedom starts when you think and decide what you want to think or not, but I don't know if it would be valid to say that we are free to do anything if we have basic instincts, because many people who killed a person or something justify their actions to their basic instincts, it would be good to find out.
